Shake, Rattle, and Reminisce: How Creative Entertainment is Transforming St Winefride’s Residential Home
Life inside a residential care home is about far more than just excellent care; it is about filling every single day with purpose, connection, and unmistakable joy. At our home, we believe that staying active and engaged is the secret to healthy ageing.
To make that happen, we use creative entertainment designed to spark old memories, tap into inner creativity, and host some unforgettable parties. Here is a look inside the creative entertainment transforming the lives of our residents.
🎸 The King is in the Building!
Nothing gets feet tapping quite like the classics. When our favourite Elvis Presley impersonator entertains, the atmosphere becomes absolutely electric. Clad in the iconic white jumpsuit, he brings the magic of the 1950s and 70s straight to our lounge.
Our residents don’t just sit and watch—they sing along at the top of their lungs, clap, and dance with the staff. The familiar rhythms of rock and roll music act like a time machine, instantly transporting everyone back to the teenage days of dance halls and jukeboxes.

📸 Capturing Smiles with Fun Photography
To capture these incredible moments, Zippidoodah Zoe holds fun photography sessions. Armed with all sorts of props—like beautiful headdresses, feather boas, and vintage jewellery—our residents let their personalities shine in front of the lens.
These photo shoots are a massive hit, providing plenty of laughter on the day. More importantly, the printed photos are proudly displayed on our walls and sent to families, offering a beautiful visual bridge between our residents and their loved ones.

🗣️📻 Musical Memories by Creative Talks
While our musical entertainers are fantastic, we also value quieter moments of deep connection. Our interactive reminiscence talks are centred around the iconic music and legendary artists of years gone by.
Residents gather together to listen to Creative Talks, who play clips and videos classic music, and share stories sparked by the soundtracks of their youth. These sessions often focus on beloved musical eras and icons, including:
The Swing Era & Wartime Anthems – Remembering the comforting voices of Vera Lynn and the grand sounds of Glenn Miller.
The Crooners & Jazz Greats – Sharing memories of swooning over Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, and Nat King Cole.
The 1950s & 60s Pop Revolution – Discussing the cultural explosion of The Beatles, Cliff Richard, and The Supremes.
These talks are incredibly therapeutic, especially for those living with dementia, as music accesses parts of the brain untouched by the disease. Watching a resident’s face light up as they recall music, a favourite dance hall, or their wedding song is a beautiful reminder of the enduring power of music

🎨 Healing Hands: Art Therapy
Creativity doesn’t have an expiry date. Our resident art therapist Joana Lebedeva hosts twice-weekly gentle sessions that focus on expression rather than perfection.
Using watercolours, pencils and crayons residents explore their feelings and exercise their fine motor skills in a calm, non-judgmental environment. The process reduces anxiety, boosts self-esteem, and gives everyone a profound sense of accomplishment when they see their finished masterpieces.

🥳 The Grand Finale: Our Bi-Monthly All-Day Parties
If you think we only celebrate on holidays, think again! Every two months, we pull out all the stops for an all-day theme party.
